Kleothera's Story Writing Guide For The Clan - The Process
(Page 2/3)
b. The Plot
The plot should not remain a mere sequence of events, but form a chain
of cause and effect leading to the conclusion. The reader will be able
to see the interests, motivations and personality quirks of the character
evolve over time.
The story will be more interesting if
the character struggles, fights to get what he wants to be happy and satisfied,
but in the end succeeds or atleast puts himself on the path to success.
Keep the following points in mind while
developing it:
|
1. All characters
are born in a known area of Dragon Stone. There are no alternate
planes of reality or unknown kingdoms.
|
| 2. The character is not
on orphan. If by a rare and unfortunate set of circumstances both
parents die early, focus on the people who brought him up.
|
| 3. Please try to avoid
your character developing amnesia. It is the oldest cliché in the
book. |
| 4. Don't overpower yourself.
Start with something less grand than the Crown Prince of a Reigning
House or the greatest over Mage of your tribe. |
| 5. If you link your RP
story with others, ask them first. |
| 6. Add actual experiences
your character had in the realms. It adds realism. |
| 7. It must end with the
character joining the Circle. The reason for joining and future plans
should be specified. |
c. The Side Characters
The character has a family, acquaintances, friends and maybe enemies.
Describe their physical characteristics, temperament, feelings and reactions
to the situation described.
d. The Setting
You should know the locality that forms the backdrop of your story. Trying
to sketch an unfamiliar background, you are bound to make mistakes. The
reason for using an existing DS area is that doing so adds richness to
the descriptions and allows continuous interaction with NPCs of the same.
Think about the time, season, location, clothing, names and other details.
The description should be clear and give specific detail so that the reader
gets a vivid picture in her mind of what you are describing. However,
don't drown the reader in extra details that fail to contribute to the
plot.
